"Marital Rape Rescue"IntroductionThis program will focus on DART, a domestic violence counseling program, specializing in marital rape. Victims of marital rape may find themselves helpless and unaware of their options for escaping the current abusive situation, let alone finding someone who understands their situation. Among many other fears, victims may believe that they do not have a justifiable case against their spouse. Here we will discuss programs currently available, domestic predators, and programs that should be available. Current Programs Oklahoma is home to many wonderful programs that help victims of domestic violence. Oklahoma Attorney General E. Scott Pruitt's office currently offers Oklahoma Safeline, a toll-free 24-hour hotline for information about domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. This program provides a safe, private opportunity to improve a horrible situation in which victims feel there is no hope. The Oklahoma Attorney General's Office provides referrals to crisis centers, shelters and more (http://www.oag.state.ok.us/oagweb.nsf/safeline.html). An additional 24-hour hotline is the National Domestic Violence HOTLINE. It is also private assistance provided by trained advocates for anyone suffering from domestic violence, stalking or sexual assault (http://www.thehotline.org/). They provide support all over the United States, and the amazing thing is that you don't need to be a US citizen. None of these programs measure up when it comes to helping people meet their basic needs, regardless of who needs help.
