  • Essay / Analysis of No One Here Gets Out Alive - 810

Another spectacular example of this is the infamous "Miami Incident" scenario. Whenever Jim performed at concerts, there was always constant drug and alcohol use, which would either fuel him through the concerts or knock him to the ground. However, when Jim traveled to Miami, Florida to perform what everyone expected to be a typical concert, no one thought it would be one of his most controversial and damaging performances to his career. As with his other performances, Jim had been drinking all day before the concert and continued when he boarded the plane to Miami. Jim arrived in Miami drunk, late and angry; what followed changed the course of his career for the worse. Once on stage, Jim began to provoke the crowd with revolutionary chants aimed at overthrowing the government: “You're just a bunch of idiots. . . How long are you going to let them push you around? (Hopkins and Sugerman 230). The crowd became more and more bloodthirsty, as did Jim. Feeding off the energy the crowd provided him, he exposed himself to the crowd by unbuckling his belt and unzipping his pants in an attempt to show his "real" personality to the crowd. Even though the act lasted no more than a few seconds, it was enough to significantly damage his career. The Doors lost a multitude of sponsors and partnerships because of this unhealthy act of Jim's. Surprisingly, this is just one of many hysterical stories about Jim that made this novel such a marvel.
