Relationships can affect us both negatively and positively because they are a major necessity in our lives. In The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Nick is attracted to Gatsby because of his intense hope and inability to give up on his dreams. However, Nick still disapproves of Gatsby because he has an undetermined past. Although their time together was short, Gatsby taught Nick a lot about hope and how too much hope can lead to devastation. Nick is attracted to Gatsby because he has a nostalgia for Daisy. Throughout the book, Gatsby shows how much he cares for Daisy through his desire to make everything perfect for her. Gatsby wanted Nick to cut his grass so it would be good enough for Daisy. He brought tons of flowers to cover the gashes in the house. Gatsby did everything he could to make Daisy happy; he made Nick cut his grass so it would be presentable to the "almighty" Daisy in his head.
