  • Essay / A Wild Race with the Demolition Derby - 1768

Demolition DerbyThe word demolition means collisions and hitting two objects together while derby means a race. These two words together create a competitive space for people to enjoy derby cars. Demolition derby drivers come from a long family history of drivers. The passion begins when they are old enough to walk, helping dad in the garage. He remembers their first demolition derby at forty miles an hour, crashing into another car and coming in third. From that moment on, he was hooked. From my experience and research, I know that it takes a lot of time and effort to build the car, compete in the demo derby, and ensure the safety of the driver and spectators. These are the three areas that this article focuses on. The first area that is important to understand when participating in the demo derby is the general rules. The rules for participants must be followed in order to participate in the demo. These rules help maintain a level playing field. These rules may change depending on the promoter in charge. The promoter has full authority to allow participants to race or to tell them that their vehicle is overbuilt. The participant will then have to put it back on the trailer and will not be able to participate in the derby. An example of these rules allowing the correct vehicle to be registered in the correct class. A typical night at the derby would include five different derby classes per evening. The class is determined by the wheelbase. A truck cannot be entered in a derby against a van because a truck has a better engine, stronger chassis and would completely destroy the van. In such an impact, the driver of the van could possibly be injured. In any derby event, some participants will have competed multiple times; ...... middle of paper ...... need to know. The most important is the general rules of demolition derby. These rules tell the participant how to build their car and the requirements of the car. Rules are important when building a demolition derby car to ensure driver safety and avoid injuries like a broken nose or wrist. A wrist fracture can occur if the shuttlecock does not let go of the shuttlecock when struck, the shuttlecock can turn around and break a participant's wrist. It is possible to break your nose by hitting someone or another participant by hitting yourself so hard that you smash your nose on the steering wheel and break your nose. Demolition derby and regulations can make the sport fun and safe. The motto I live by when competing in demolition derbies is "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." ยป by Dr. Suess. It helps me remember that whether I win or lose, I had fun doing it.
