Best Management Practices Demonstrate Communication SkillsDemonstrating good communication skills is essential to the supervisory role. To be a leader, you have to be able to lead effectively and that starts with communication. First, a supervisor must know his or her personal communication style. In fact, he must know which form of communication suits him best, and he must be consistent. I believe the most important aspect of demonstrating communication skills lies not so much in what is said but in the actions that follow. To be an effective communicator, a supervisor must have knowledge and must also stand behind and follow through on what they say. Communication is not only verbal but there are many ways to communicate effectively without using words, non-verbal communication is something different for each person. Ideas can be communicated effectively with a simple hand gesture or nod of the head. There are non-verbal communications aside from gestures, things like body language, eye contact, physical touch and even tone of voice are a non-verbal aspect of communication. A lot of things can be communicated without even saying anything, a great example of this is the stink eye, and by that I mean that look your mother gave you when you were a child that immediately let you know you were ready to do it; the look that is almost worse than the punishment. Simple things like these are ways to demonstrate your communication skills. Determine effective orientation and training methods. Effective employee orientation and training begins with a clear understanding of each company's goals, philosophy and brief history. This will help employees understand the rhyme and reason why things are done a certain way. To determine what the best orientation and training practice is, job expectations must be clearly defined.
