  • Essay / NRA - 2958

NRA: The Right to Have Gun Rights Gun control is a very sensitive subject in our world as crime rates rise and mass shootings occur. produce. There are two sides to the gun control table: more control or less control. Both Democrats and Republicans have their positions on this issue and most representatives follow party lines. It is typical for Democrats to favor greater gun control and Republicans to be less supportive. The policy I support is the right to continue to carry a concealed weapon in every state; the only exclusion is that it cannot be carried into restaurants, bars or any other place that sells alcohol. Currently, some states allow you to carry a concealed weapon, but if you cross state lines you risk being arrested. I would also imply that all states have the same/equal laws. This policy will give Americans the freedom to choose whether or not to carry a gun. This policy is accompanied by another gun control law, the Stand-Your-Ground Act, which grants individuals the ability to protect themselves from a deadly situation by using a firearm. By allowing people to carry a concealed weapon, you are providing them with more protection for themselves or those around them. The third part of my policy concerns background checks. Without a thorough background check, gun stores could simply hand a gun to a psychotic individual to shoot up at a mall. It's already in place and I think it's a safe and common-sense thing. By allowing United States citizens to carry a concealed weapon, protecting them in defense, and ensuring that people who carry these weapons are mentally safe and not criminals, the world will become a safer place . Along with my politics, I think it's best to think about people who have never been... middle of paper... interested in guns and gun rights. When someone joins an interest group, they have power. This power is bestowed by and brings together groups with a common interest. Voting does not give you power. The reason the NRA is so powerful is because it is private and organized and in politics that is what gives an interest group its power. The NRA works because it has solidarity, a sense of belonging to a group. Members of this group feel that everything they do has an impact. Another reason is selective incentives, a reward that benefits those who help the group. These incentives ensure that there will always be someone willing to help. The NRA offers incentives such as classes on how to use firearms or becoming better at shooting a firearm. The NRA is powerful through solidarity and incentives, which is why I will choose them to help me pass my policies..
