While teaching, Kasilag eventually worked to earn her bachelor's degree in music. In 1949, she finally obtained her bachelor's degree in music. Kasilag began to have ideas for pursuing his musical career. One was to attend a music school in America, located 8,207 miles from home. Kasilag had to choose between two music schools in America. One was the Chicago Music College, the other the Eastman School of Music, located in Rochester, New York. Kasilag chose the Eastman School of Music where she studied with Allen I.
