A school uniform is a certain outfit that is worn daily by all students of a particular school. A dress code is a published list of clothing items that are permitted to be worn at school. A school uniform eliminates all other possibilities of wearing inappropriate clothing. A school uniform clearly states what to wear and no other clothing should be worn. Brooklyn College Academy is a high school that has a school uniform. Different levels have different uniforms, but everyone is always treated the same. Brooklyn College Academy has enforced a dress code by having a school uniform policy and should continue to have one. Having a school uniform ensures the safety of students attending school. There is no bullying because all the students wear the same clothes. A student cannot judge another student for not wearing fashionable clothes. According to Mariam Wilde in the article “Do Uniforms Make Schools Better?” » he states: “School uniforms can reduce economic and social barriers between students” (Wilde 1). A poor, low-income student has the same position in school as a rich student. This example can also prevent peer pressure. No one is forced to buy fashionable clothes that they can't afford. Maintaining a school uniform at Brooklyn College Academy can prevent bullying from occurring. Another example of student safety when wearing school uniforms is when an intruder enters the school. According to Lindsay Lowe in the article “School Uniforms on the Rise,” she states, “With children wearing uniforms, campus security officers can easily identify anyone who is not a uniform” (Lowe 1). By having a school uniform at Brooklyn College Academy, it will be easier to enforce a dress code. The safety of students will be ensured by wearing school uniforms. Grades will continue to improve with school uniforms. There won't be much stress as a student not wearing a school uniform. They know what they will wear in the morning. Brooklyn College Academy should keep school uniforms and dress code.
