Even if not everyone likes sport, sport transcends all cultural boundaries because the history of sport dates back to the dawn of humanity . The ideology of sport transcending cultural barriers exists in the world today. As demonstrated by the Olympics and several other sporting games around the world that unite a wide range of cultures, we can look to empirical evidence as proof of these ideas. The impact of sport goes far beyond simple entertainment or leisure. Some argue the notion of cultural imperialism rather than cultural transcendence in relation to the history of sport. I will begin by discussing the history of sports and how cultural transcendence through the use of sports has developed over time. The roots of the sport date back to the dawn of humanity through archaeological and ethnographic evidence such as cave paintings and the accounts of early European explorers. Contests involving running, jumping, throwing, catching and fighting date back to ancient times. Sport can often represent a term used to identify many types of physical activities performed competitively or recreationally. However, sport also contributes to the cohesion of a vast cultural landscape across the world. Sport has played an important role throughout history in the development of societies and communities around the world. The evolution of sport throughout history illustrates how sport has transcended all cultural boundaries through several ideological factors such as respect, sportsmanship, fair play, honor and integrity, e.g. . The idea that sport provides an equal playing field or opportunity opens the door for a wide variety of people to participate and compete against equal opposition, regardless of their cultural status.
