It is written from the perspective of Rose, a young senior who faces different challenges throughout the story. She is accompanied by her two best friends, Charlie and Olivia. The story portrays Shakespeare's play "Romeo and Juliet" in a completely different light. "When You Were Mine" is told in the present day, while Shakespeare's play was published in 1597. The time difference creates a drastic change from Shakespeare's play, but the author believes it is what he wanted. This review will critique the novel's plot, its readability, and its ability, if anything, to keep the reader intrigued. Although this book was not created based on an original idea, it still has an original twist. By being able to read the story through a different character's point of view, the reader is intrigued.
