Essay / The Importance of Being My Own Person - 1051
I have worked as a football referee, usually for players between the ages of eight and fourteen. To become a referee, I had to go through a clinic for eight hours and learn all the rules and the ins and outs. Once I finished the eight-hour course, I had to take an exam to get my license, and I did. My father would drive me to the fields where I would umpire, usually in Lodi, Wadsworth or Medina. I worked primarily on Sundays with occasional weekday matches, making about forty to fifty dollars per match. Most of the money went into my pocket, but some went to my father to pay for the course fees, the uniform I had to buy, and occasionally treat him to an ice cream during his time. With the money I was able to earn from my new job, I could spend my own money freely on the things I wanted instead of needing my parents' money. I could go out with friends more often and buy more things because I had more money to spend.
