  • Essay / Bad Language and Violence in Entertainment - 1251

I find this “liberated age” morally and intellectually devoid of any redeeming qualities. I have to admit that when I was a teenager, lifestyles were almost puritanical in comparison and teenagers found life too restrictive. Today, restrictions have actually been eased. In fact, I see very few signs of restrictions on content and explicitness and find it both annoying and insulting to my concept of decency or morality. I look through movie listings to find a movie that will be enjoyable. No assurances, as most films contain offensive scenes and crude language which are completely unnecessary and which, instead of enhancing the film, detract from its enjoyment. Children today have, in my opinion, pitiful role models to look up to. It seems that the lower the mentality and the worse the performance, the greater the admiration. I do not claim to know the cure for this condition. Certainly no censorship; but it seems like more pressure could be put on the entertainment industry to clean up its act and tone down its attempts to see who can deliver the most filth without being sued. A little less PC and more honesty would certainly help. I find it very worrying that in the name of press freedom, we allow ourselves to be inundated 24 hours a day with "entertainment" that is not suitable for children, let alone adults..
