The modern Olympics were created in the late 1800s as a way to redeem France after its defeat in the Franco-Prussian War. Since then, the Games have been politically motivated. The Olympic Games bring more public attention and publicity to the country hosting them. China, Germany, and Russia, along with many other countries, have used this situation to their advantage over the years. Political issues between countries at the time of the Olympics have an effect on the Games, despite attempts to separate the two. The Olympics provide the perfect opportunity for countries to demonstrate their position on certain political conflicts. Since the beginning of the modern Olympic Games, there has been less emphasis on sporting ability and more on political conflict and the acquisition of prestige, leading countries to abuse the Olympic Games by holding them solely for political advantage , turning them into a political battlefield filled with boycotts and discrimination. .In 776 BC, the first ancient Olympic Games took place.
