  • Essay / Writing an Essay About My Food Preferences - 1276

Thin Pickings I can honestly say that I never thought I would one day write an essay about my food preferences, even though it is something in my life that I have always questioned or thought about. I love food, but my relationship with it has been a little fragile over the years. This caused my food preferences to fluctuate a lot, but my relationship with those food preferences has undoubtedly made me the person I am today. Personally, I am currently a fan of a lot of vegetables, meats, cheeses and hot dishes. To be more specific, I assume that the foods I like are just healthy choices that the average person eats daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. However, I never always loved this type of food, nor had the structure I have today when it comes to eating. The types of food I loved changed over the years, from my early lifestyle, adolescence, and early adulthood, and made me the person I am today. When I was little, I ate whatever my heart desired. Cakes, cheese shavings, chips and many other savory and sweet snacks were some of my favorite treats when I came home from school. My family always stocked up on snacks to make me happy. I remember drinking soda with every meal. It wasn't that my parents gave me unhealthy food, because I usually ended up sneaking food whenever I got the chance. My family still fed me breakfast, lunch, and dinner until I was nine. That's when my family taught me how to cook simple things, so they wouldn't have to worry about it as much. However, instead of cooking, I simply ate more junk food. My obsession with these junk, sugary foods has shaped my identity. Just like junk food, outside, I maintained a...... middle of paper ...... and making sure to take at least an hour break between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., this way I can have dinner. I started getting up early to make myself breakfast before a shift. I simply started eating the foods that I liked, and because of that, I didn't mind eating those foods. I felt like a whole person again. I took more time off from work to ensure I had days off where I could cook better meals and time to relax. I felt grown up and more mature because I knew it was my responsibility to start taking care of my body, rather than ignoring the signs that it needed help. I am currently a healthy 19 year old female who is still growing. My food preferences have shaped my identity and become an important part of the person I am today. It's a timeline of my life from my childhood to where I grew up today. Instead of worrying about my food, I live it and enjoy it.
