  • Essay / The Theory of Multiple Universes - 680

The theory of multiple universes says that there are many universes that make up a multiverse, a term used to describe all parallel universes, and we live in one of these many universes. Matter can only be organized in so many ways and must therefore begin to repeat itself. This means that if you could see into other universes, you could see infinite versions of yourself. Physicist Brian Greene believes that string theory plays an important role in understanding the theory. Strings are very small one-dimensional objects that vibrate in ten or eleven dimensions. String theory incorporates gravity and therefore could be a theory for everything. Brian Greene says that “Einstein's theory of relativity does a fantastic job of explaining big things. » “Quantum mechanics is fantastic at the other end of the spectrum, for the little things.” “The big problem is that each theory is great for each field, but when they clash, they become fierce antagonists and the mathematics falls apart.” String theory smoothes out the mathematical differences that exist between string theory and quantum mechanics. Brian Greene says: “In string theory, the strings we're talking about are not the only entities allowed by that theory. It also allows you to obtain objects that look like large flying carpets, or membranes, which are two-dimensional surfaces. And what that means, in the context of string theory, is that we may be living on one of these gigantic surfaces, and there may be other surfaces floating in space. » In 1954, Hugh Everett III, a doctoral student at Princeton University, proposed the idea that parallel universes exist. These universes are related to ours and they branch off from ours and our universe bifurcates from other universes....... middle of paper ......d Max Tegmark of MIT.Works CitedGreene, Brian. “A physicist explains why parallel universes can exist.” NPR.
