  • Essay / Role of socialization - 976

Although it is related to school, my group of friends played a very important role as an agent of socialization, giving me the opportunity, as a as a child, to relate to others on my own terms. Unlike family and school, I would like to say that my peer group made me independent, learning things that don't involve instructions from adults. I never imagined that my peers would affect my choices, like encouraging me to get a job or trying to move out of my parents' house. It reminds me of when I came home from school one day and my parents randomly sat me down to have a long talk about friendship. They are specifically concerned about who I choose as friends. Now I understand why my parents worry about the friends I choose. My peer group gave me the chance to build relationships and learn without help from elders, thereby influencing me in a positive way.
