Strengths and Weaknesses of This Teaching Approach I would first like to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of this teaching approach. The KWL chart is an important aspect of this lesson. When students write down their prior knowledge, this is very important, as we learned earlier when talking about attention. “As noted in the PowerPoint, having prior knowledge improves the student's selective attention, they may find it easier to identify and focus on important issues, this is what this is called top-down processing. Top-down processing focuses outward, and teachers will be able to go into more detail once they have assessed the student's prior knowledge. The weakness teachers might encounter with this KWL chart is that if a student has recently come from another country and has no prior knowledge about Thanksgiving, it won't be as easy. Data-driven processing is
