Smartphones pose the biggest threat to middle and high school teachers; i.e. social media, cheating opportunities and communication opportunities. The solution to using smartphones in the classroom can vary, such as having a “cell phone booth” where students must place their cell phones in a designated area, as soon as they enter a classroom. Another effective way to address the smartphone issue for teachers is to inform parents about parental controls they can put on their children's phones that can disable social media and text messaging usage during school.
