Essay / Africa - 910
Throughout reading Black Atlantic, several topics seem to be very important, some of them being colonialism and emigration. These topics eventually break down into smaller subtopics; one of these subthemes seems to be the idea of evangelism. This brings us strongly to what this idea of evangelization actually was, and it begins to raise questions such as whether the colonizers were evangelizing or proselytizing to the people of Africa? Reading several documents, I had a mixture of the two, several writers were fascinated by the idea that this concept of Africa was delivered by the word of the colonizer. Other authors were not very supportive of this concept, as they saw it as more about exploiting Africa for its riches, but they also believed that this idea of religion could possibly benefit Africa . The writers I most closely embody this way of thinking are Delany, Crummell, and Crowther. Each writer is very similar to the same ideas that religion is a tool to prosper the people of Africa, but also Africa as a global identity. WE Dubois talks a lot about this idea of "double consciousness", the concepts mainly relate to how the black man has double consciousness and what double consciousness means. the desire of every black man is to form the singular state of the two consciousnesses into one, and for this single consciousness to become an identity of both. This idea of having two thoughts, two souls, two unreconciled efforts and two ideals at war, comes from both colonialism and emigration, the reason is that a conscience is made up of the eyes of someone Alternatively, it could refer to the colonizer implementing all the ideas. middle of paper......neglected, but because the black man has been recognized as worthy of enlightenment, there seems to be hope for Africa now through the establishment of the missionaries. Finally, Bishop Crowther, who favored the introduction of Christianity to Africa, was very devoted to the Christian faith and wrote segments of the Bible in the African language. Crowther was a proponent of establishing Christian missionaries in Africa. Like Delany, he believed that Africa was not up to par with the world in terms of wealth, knowledge and technology and that Christianity was a means of bringing these elements to Africa. Crowther also delved into "Africa for Africans alone", which he believed was an ignorant solution and that Africa needed help from outside to have a sense of improvement and that Christianity did this to 'Africa..
