In the case of Joseph where his brother sold him into slavery, which was supposed to be wrong, God planned everything to bless Joseph and his family long term (Genesis 37-47 Holman Christian Study Bible). As Christians, we must rely on God's understanding, not our own: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding" (Proverbs 3:5). Joni could live out her faith by trusting God and not thinking it was useless. She could bring living words to the people around her. As a voice calling from the desert like that of John the Baptist, Joni's desert would be his situation. Christians around the world are using the pain they have experienced to spread God's message. This is her story now that only she can share and show how God did not abandon her, but delivered her from the depths of the abyss and has now renewed her.
