    Part 1:Paul Poiret was born on April 20, 1879 in Paris, France. His contributions to 20th century fashion earned him the title of "king of fashion" in the eyes of many people, because he established the principle of modern dress and created the model for the modern fashion industry. Poiret's designs and ideas paved the way for modern design history. He was born into a working-class family and his natural charisma eventually earned him entry into some of the most exclusive workshops of the Belle Époque. Jacques Doucet, one of the most prominent couturiers in the capital, hired him after seeing promising sketches that he had sold to other couturiers. Additionally, he was hired by the House of Worth and put to work creating simple items that were less glamorous and more practical, as his out-of-the-ordinary designs were not welcomed with open arms by an opulent clientele. Despite this experience, he was still confident in his ideas and ventured out on his own with money borrowed from his parents and opened a shop. Additionally, he wanted to promote the concept of a “total lifestyle.” He was considered the first couturier to merge fashion and interior design. Her independent work broke the normal conventions of tailoring and overturned its underlying assumptions. He freed the woman's body from the petticoat and corset to allow the clothing to follow the woman's natural form.
