Essay / Privileges and Inequalities - 738
Social inequality consists of members of gender, sexual orientation and race being isolated or not treated equally with others. People who identify as having a sexual orientation different from what is considered "normal", such as gay or transgender people, face discrimination in matters of children, health care, housing and employment . Women also face many challenges, such as being paid less than men: seventy-nine cents for every man's dollar. If we look at positions of power, we see that women hold far fewer positions than men. The average CEO, or managers of a company, are more often men than women because women are not taken seriously when it comes to business. “For example, the media often reinforces negative stereotypes about women, such as stupid blondes, passive Asian Americans, or arrogant African Americans” (Shaw and Lee 61), which makes women look bad and this is where this negative connotation of women comes from.
