  • Essay / Mechanism Isothane EMA - 972

The ISO THANE EMA elastomeric membrane is a liquid applied coating based on urethane perpolymers which hardens by reaction with atmospheric humidity to give a continuous and elastic film. It contains aluminum sheets which provide excellent UV resistance. ISOTHANE EMA is a very high solids coating designed to provide a high build film. It can be applied by brush or spray (with airless spray equipment) but it has a higher viscosity than conventional paint and should not be thinned. ISOTHANE EMA bends to form a permanently flexible seamless membrane which due to its wet chemical reactivity has good adhesion to a wide range of substrates (with appropriate preparation) such as roofing asphalt, slates, tiles, asbestos, concrete, brick, wood, glass and metals. Unlike more traditional bitumen-based products, ISOTHANE EMA does not easily weaken with age, exposure to ultraviolet rays or weathering and therefore does not crack. Since it is elastomeric, ISOTHANE EMA is not affected by temperature extremes, therefore it will not crack at low temperatures or undergo heat flux at high temperatures. ISOTHANE EMA can be applied by brush, airless spray or roller without the need for mixing, agitation or heating before application. APPLICATION ISOTHANE elastomeric membranes are designed to adhere to many types of substrates, particularly those commonly used as roofing, such as felt, asphalt, slate, tile, asbestos, concrete, brick, wood, glass and metals. They can also be applied to sprayed polyurethane (PU) foam insulation. However, it is essential that the substrate and structures are properly prepared and stable.
