Essay / Analysis of a Modest Proposal - 967
“A Modest Proposal” by Jonathan Swift is considered highly satirical. Swift's proposal to solve the menace of hunger through the sale of poor children to rich people is highly satirical. He claims that the practice of selling children will solve the problems of poverty since the nation will be depopulated. Its spotlight explains the proposal in depth, describing Irish children as the equivalent of cattle whose carcasses are used to produce women's gloves and men's boots. The reason the Irish eat their babies is mocking in the sense that it satirizes people who make absurd claims in the name of solving a problem. As a writer, Swift satirizes himself by asserting the lack of economic gain from his altruistic works. Jonathan and other artists of the era used satire in an attempt to address Ireland's deplorable conditions of poverty and the widening gap between rich and poor. By avoiding the conventional way of approaching similar issues, these artists were able to attract a lot of attention.Chapter 11 Discussion #2My parents and I had gone to visit my aunt who lived in Philadelphia. I couldn't wait to meet her since I hadn't seen her in my entire life. My aunt had two children; Jake and Amber. They were aged ten and eight respectively. The first meeting I had with my two cousins did not seem very pleasant to me. They uttered threatening words amid greetings. I put that aside assuming it was just young children. Jake and Amber were TV addicts and X-rated movie fans. I wondered how my aunt allowed her children to watch such obscene movies from a young age. We got a rude shock when, during the meal, Jake inserted his unwashed hands into the serving pot containing...... middle of paper...... arts and exhibitions controlled by State. The Post-Impressionists were keen to capture transitional events such as world wars, machines, technological advancements and different patterns of the atmosphere. Futurism was an Italian art movement that was inspired by speed, modernity and technology. They represented the dynamics of life in the 20th century, venerating war and the machine age. Its transformation was helped by Filippo Marinetti after the publication of La Manifestation Futuriste. The activities of this movement fit clearly into descriptions of the Post-Impressionist movements.Chapter 15 DiscussionThe humanities have been shaped by various prominent figures whose contributions have revolutionized many areas of the study of the humanities.
