Essay / A Review of Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Peterson
Bridge to Terabithia is a novel written by an American writer named Katherine Peterson. This book is about two people, named Jess Aarons and Leslie Burke. They are both from 5th grade. Jess is a good runner who has been training all summer for a so-called "Recreation Run", which is a competition organized by students in which they participate in foot races. The winner gets fame from his peers and a good impression. An unexpected thing happened and it was that the new kid, Leslie, won the race. After a while, Leslie and Jess become good friends. Both of them try to help each other solve these problems, which makes them better. Few issues are that Leslie is bullied because of the way she acts and the way she dresses because others say it's "different". This is the result of her parents working too much and not finding time for her. Jess is not left without problems. Like some people, he enjoys drawing and art, but his father tells him that he should quit and quit, because it's a waste of time. The reason is that his father says he should watch sports and be more manly. One day, they come across a place in a forest. They choose to call it Terabithia. Using a rope swing to cross the stream is the only practical and possible way to get to this location. After some time and more frequent visits from Terabithia, they refer to each other as the king and queen of this hidden place. Terabithia also helps Jess and Leslie to be themselves and not worry about their many problems, as using their imagination and images creates opportunities for them to create new scenarios and games. After a while, a terrible accident occurs. Leslie, who decides to go to Terabithia alone, falls from the rope which breaks. After finding out, Jess is initially sad, not believing that his best friend, a person who supported him, has just left the world of the living. It takes him a while to realize how their friendship has empowered him to deal with depression and problems he can't change. Few themes and messages are represented in this story. The main theme in my opinion is “By having someone you trust, you can learn to handle situations better”. The theme could be described as friendship in a nutshell. Having a strong friendship with Leslie, Jess learned and gained enough power to overcome bad situations. Keep in mind: this is just a sample. Get a personalized article from our expert writers now. I would give it 3.5-4 stars out of 5 and that's because some parts were too long and not climactic..
