    Wright trying to show him the error of his ways, I saw that Mr. Wright maintains the belief that society is unjust. He had to steal because if he hadn't, he would have been stuck where he was in the south, with no hope of moving forward except in life and in the country. His oppression prevents him from doing much, all because of the color of his skin. Because of the way he was born, he cannot fully appreciate the American dream he currently finds himself in. "Whenever I thought about the fundamental sadness of black life in America, I knew that black people had never been allowed to grasp the full spirit of Western civilization, that they lived one way or another. 'another in this one but not in this one." (Black Boy, chapter 2). Mr. Wright feels like a small fish swimming against a big current trying to reach his destination. Stealing, even though he knows it is wrong, is the only way for him to get where he needs to go. He shows remorse for what he did, but despite this remorse, he still believes that what he did was right, because if he hadn't done it, he would still be in the south. The reason Mr. Wright stole these theater tickets was to resell them so he would have enough money to move him and his family up North, where they could have a better life. He has sworn not to steal again, but he feels it is the only way forward. He has a deep sense of independence and responsibility, enough to make him abandon his own morals when he
