Essay / Review of Raven's Peak by Lincoln Cole
The book Raven's Peak by Lincoln Cole is a supernatural mystery revolving around the sudden madness of a small town of the same name as the book. A woman named Abigail is called in to investigate the problem and a man named Haatim becomes involved when she saves him. The two must now understand and resolve the problem unfolding at Raven's Peak. Say no to plagiarism. Get a tailor-made essay on “Why Violent Video Games Should Not Be Banned”? This allows readers to have a little more imagination in some places, or to place them just as precisely in other places. The fight scenes were also easy to follow and no longer than necessary. What I enjoyed most about Raven's Peak was the interaction between Abigail and Haatim, their dour but similar personalities worked well. Even when the situation was for them to butt heads a little, it seemed character-driven and not forced. What I didn't fully appreciate about Raven's Peak was that the book started off very strong in the prologue, the first few chapters kept you a little intrigued, but somewhere before the middle I felt like that it was slow. However, after about half way through it picked up again and it was very enjoyable after that. What I liked least was Abigail's ability to give personal information to Haatim, even though her whole character wasn't meant to be vulnerable in that sense. I understand that it's a bit of a shorter book, but I wish there was a way for her to open up rather than it being as sudden as it was. I would give Raven's Peak 3 stars out of 4. I give it this rating because while there were some things I wish were a little different, I really enjoyed it. It's a short and sweet first volume and I would recommend people who are interested in mystery and the supernatural being very real in a story to check it out. This is a good book for readers who are new to the genre and want a taste of it, as well as those who are seasoned readers of the genre. Keep in mind: this is just a sample. Like all books, it's not perfect but it's at least worth a look. The characters work well together and the setting is very well done. Raven's Peak is a great addition to the genre and I applaud the author for writing such a great supernatural mystery book in about 200 pages..
