  • Essay / Compare and Contrast Islam and the Christ Religion

The art of Islam does not include any images of humans or animals, however, landscapes are depicted. Muhammad warned his followers regarding artists who would create images depicting living beings that “those who make these images will be punished on the Day of Judgment, saying to them: Make alive what you have created” (Sayre 296). Christian art consists of a few sculptures, however, the majority of Christian art are murals which contain symbolic meaning. Symbolism is important to the spiritual beliefs of Christians because symbols, such as the fish, were used to identify the faith in a way that was not seen by the general public. Music was initially seen as a distraction for Islamic worshipers, but after the death of Muhammad, music became an important part of Muslim worship (Sayre 304). Muslims have incorporated music into their religious practices and worship by chanting verses from the Quran and chanting the seven phrases during the call to prayer. Christians also incorporate music during worship by singing hymns. Muslims created an oud which later became the modern version of the guitar and the Arabs were the first to write down the concept of music.
