Essay / Costco-topia: Ten items needed to survive a zombie...
A zombie apocalypse. It's something that worries me on a daily basis. Where could I hide? How could I survive? Well, the other day I was in line at Costco and looked at the contents of my cart. I had a bag of trail mix, a few cans of corn and beans, a pack of water, a bottle of aspirin, and a memory foam mattress topper. I realized that if the apocalypse started, at that very moment, everything would be perfectly fine for me. I had all the items and supplies necessary for my survival in the building, if not already in my basket. Therefore, if a zombie apocalypse broke out today, people would have to seek shelter at Costco to survive. Ten things are necessary to survive a zombie apocalypse: a regular food supply, clean water, medicine, transportation, gas, a defense system, a sturdy shelter, a safe place to sleep indoors shelter, weapons and simple tools. Costco supplies all of these items. According to an article in the Concordian, “If you asked 100 people where they would hide during a zombie apocalypse, 98 would say Costco. Costco is a huge marketplace that sells basically everything you would need to live there permanently” (Menexis). Unfortunately, there are still two people out of a hundred who disagree. These people say Costco wouldn't be a wise place to be during the apocalypse because of its size. They argue that the massive size of a Costco store is too big for one person or even a small group of people to defend. Although this argument is based on a logical line of thinking, several factors make this view invalid. Costco doesn't need a huge defense system because it's literally a huge warehouse. This means that Costco is essentially a huge concrete box with two openings in the middle made of paper. Build a life for each other. I know it's there. You just have to find it” (Darabont). Too bad for Rick he didn't stumble upon a Costco in his search for safe shelter. If he had done so, his group of disciples would be safe and in the apocalypse setting, in heaven. Costco provides the ten items needed to survive a zombie apocalypse. Therefore, if a zombie apocalypse breaks out, people should grab their Costco membership card and head to the nearest Costco.Works CitedDarabont, Frank, prod. “Beside the dying fire.” The Walking Dead.
