Essay / The Benefits of Music Therapy - 1019
Richardson, Babiak-Vazquez and Frenkel discuss a clinical trial at the Anderson Cancer Center where patients learned to play a musical instrument. The patients trained daily and eventually put on a show. During the preparation and practice of the performance, the doctors were able to note "an improvement in self-esteem, self-confidence, coping mechanisms and involvement in activities not associated with hospital life” (Richardson, Babiak-Vazquez and Frenkel 78). As more trials and studies are concluded, a reduction in anxiety and overall pain levels will be seen through the power of music.
