A story set in the heart of Panem; a fictional country divided into 12 districts and the Capitol. The Capitol randomly selects a boy and a girl from each district, the 24 elected officials must fight against each other to win because there is only one winner. The story centers on Katniss. She takes the place of her little sister who is chosen for the game, after which she engages in the game with her male partner. It is an adventurous story of hope, love and sacrifice. When one moves away from a text while analyzing it, the attitude of analyzing a text is called extrinsic. There are various forms of extrinsic analysis such as Marxist analysis. Marxist analysis is a form of extrinsic analysis where the ideology of the text and social classes are closely examined. It is a way of analyzing a text in relation to the economic situation of people and treating everything as a commodity that can be bought or sold. Its main focus is the interaction between the rich and the poor. The city of Panem is a society divided into two large groups: the 12 districts and the Capitol. These 12 districts are all subject to an autocratic political state known as the Capitol. The Capitol represents the bourgeoisie and the 12 districts the proletariats. There is endless conflict between the two classes. This is seen when the district rebelled against the Capitol and failed. The Capitol is using the fact that they failed to oppress them further. Districts are governed by the Capitol ruling over specific areas and controlling all forms of production and the use of production. Each district represents a form of natural resources for the Capitol. District 12 was for coal mining, District 11 for agriculture, District 10 for ranching...... middle of paper ...... or the most important part of the District 12. There is a disparity between the availability of resources in the districts. Rebellion is seen when the little girl in district 11 dies. The people of this neighborhood start fighting the men in uniform and start destroying things around them. Additionally, when Katniss and Peeta attempt suicide at the end of the game, they change the minds of the authorities. Through this action, Katniss and Peeta manage to influence the game creators' decision, which is the first time this has happened. Katniss can be seen as an intellectual leader who stood up for what she believed in because she did not kill her male counterpart. The President of the Capitol hates the fact that Katniss makes changes to the game, even if she does so indirectly. “Hunger Games” can be seen as a text with an authoritarian class and an undermining class, displaying Marxist literary theory in this aspect...
