  • Essay / Televisa as a monopoly in Mexico - 790

Since the appearance of television, the whole world has changed the way of communicating and the means of obtaining data on the problems occurring around us (Beggs J. , 2013). But what if we only have one medium to communicate all this information? How does this affect the existence of only one way to obtain information with veracity and objectivity? This is exactly the situation in Mexico, a country that reigns in a television monopoly, and this control manipulates the information according to its interest. A monopoly is a market with a single seller that has no form of competition or is very weak. , and the offer is not attractive for the customer. This single seller is called a monopolist. Monopolies are very powerful companies that are impossible not to notice. Their main goal is to gain the most control they can have over the market in which they interact. On the other hand, monopolies are created by private initiative or by the government, and this happens because the government grants the right to do business. in a particular market (Beggs J., 2013). In this case, the existence of a single media is very practical because they have in their hands the power of production and transmission of programs in Mexico. They also control a large percentage of the Mexican population and they do this (control) with their advertisements and their messages given to the people. However, Televisa is one of the most influential and largest companies in the Spanish-speaking world, based on market capitalization. , and is a major player in the global entertainment sector (Grupo Televisa, 2013). This company was created in 1930 by Emilio Azcárraga Vidaurreta, and since then Televisa has become one of ...... middle of paper ...... they have the power to manipulate people. So there are many reasons to stop monopolies, not only economically, but also socially, because they do not allow the free development of thought, and even with regulations and laws, businesses are trying to create monopolies to make more money. .Works CitedBeggs, J.
