When we discuss our school's mission and its goal of preparing students to become responsible, world-class citizens and high-achieving lifelong learners; we must begin instituting programs that increase students' ability to engage in community service in more meaningful ways. According to the Civic Literacy Project, “service learning benefits many parties, from schools and agencies to communities and society.” Therefore, I believe that in order to broaden our students' worldview, we should find volunteer work for educational purposes. With this in mind, I believe we should form a working group with the goal of organizing a curriculum and program to find interesting volunteer opportunities. that align with our mission as world-class citizens. This task force will be comprised of community leaders, with an emphasis on leaders of volunteer and civic organizations who would like to see students more involved in service-learning; parents who may or may not believe this is the appropriate role for a school and may prefer that these sought-after activities be carried out by religious organizations; as well as teachers and educators in our school district who see some of the educational benefits of these activities, but do not necessarily understand the educational benefits of this program. Upon approval of this task force, it will consist of six community and civic leaders, five parents, three religious leaders, four teachers and two district school administrators; with a gender breakdown of 11 males and 10 females, and a racial breakdown of 8 African Americans, 10 Caucasians, 2 Hispanics, and 1 Asian. However, he is reluctant about the resources he would like to devote to a program like the one I describe. Lorna McBride- is Director of Elementary Education and former elementary school principal. It plays a vital role in helping to develop a curriculum and design an educational program; Additionally, it is increasingly looking for a way to bring community and civic leaders into partnership with schools. ConclusionIn summary, this working group can truly act as a link between the community and the school. Therefore, I believe we should design a curriculum and teaching program that encourages students to engage in service learning. Most importantly, we want a program that increases students' personal and social responsibility and helps make them better world-class citizens..
