  • Essay / New York City - 1730

New York CityEvery time I hear this song, it makes me want to abandon all my responsibilities and move to the city of my dreams. A trip to New York has been a dream of mine since I was little. I have always wanted to visit the place of tall buildings, history and where culture is closely linked to its people. I wanted to live the fast-paced life of a New Yorker, where I could stay outside and see, smell and taste all the experiences this city has to offer. I have been building and building this ideal image in my mind for so long. If I ever get to New York, will I be disappointed by this city that never sleeps? The city that's in almost every movie I watch. Can New York live up to the expectations I have created? In the summer of 2004, my dream of visiting New York came true. I could barely contain my excitement about finally living the life of a New Yorker, even if it would only be for a few days. The plane ride itself was torture, due to my seething impatience to arrive at my destination. Once the captain announced the descent to the New York airport, my stomach sank. Arriving into the city was everything I had hoped for. My husband and I, of course, had difficulty navigating JFK Airport. We didn't know where we should go to collect our luggage. My husband and I and everyone on our plane ended up exiting the airport to another part of the airport. Eventually things cleared up and we found our terminal where our luggage was supposed to be. Finally, after about a half hour at the airport, we figured out how to get around the airport. As if we had passed our first test, we...... middle of paper ......able to see, due to time constraints. The one sight I really wanted to see, but couldn't, was Ground Zero. Returning to the hotel in the rain was one of my favorite parts of the trip. How awesome is it to let your guard down long enough for that child inside to take over. My husband and I tried very hard on our walk to stay dry and hide in the shops as the rain intensified. My husband and I finally gave up hope of staying dry. Instead, we paid attention to the wind and splashed and played in the rain. It was like taking a walk while taking a shower. I know that when we both got back to our room, no part of our body was dry. I will have this memory in mind for the rest of my life. I will have many wonderful and exciting memories of my trip to New York. I know that if I never return to this city, I will always remember my experiences.
