  • Essay / F. Scott Fitzgerald - 968

    F. Scott Fitzgerald was born September 24, 1869 in St. Paul Minnesota and died December 21, 1940 in Hollywood following a heart attack. He was the son of Edward Fitzgerald and Mary McQuillan. Neither of them were writers or had anything to do with writing, so it's unclear where F. Scott got his writing skills from, but it probably came from his father's side because his father's great-great-grandfather was the brother of Francis Scott. Key's grandfather. Francis Scott Key is the one named after F. Scott Fitzgerald. He also wrote the “Star Spangle Banner.” F. Scott was the pride and joy of his parents, especially his mother; she often showed him off and made him sing and entertain when family or business came to visit. He did this until he was 15. His father was an alcoholic but had nice manners which he passed on to his son. But even though he was the apple of his parents' eyes, he had little respect for them; he believed he was of royal blood and had been dropped off at the Fitzgerald's door. Ever since F. Scott was a child, he believed he was destined for something more, but little did he know that he would literally become an American legend. (Donaldson)When he was young, he attended St. Paul Academy from age 13 to 15. At age 15, he was sent to the Newman School in New Jersey. There he met Father Sigourney Fay who was the first to encourage Scott to pursue his literary talent. After graduating from Newman, he stayed in New Jersey to hone his writing skills. To do this, he attended Princeton in 1914, where he wrote for the Triangle Club, the Princeton Tiger, and the Nassau Literary Magazine. With Scott so focused on his writing, his classes suffered. Princeton had no choice but to put him on academic probation, and in 1917 he abandoned his studies and joined the medium of paper among the greatest American authors in history, the books and stories that he wrote. wrote shows that he did indeed have a lot of potential, but it was wasted on partying, drinking, and fighting with his wife. F. Scott is literally a genius and is a writer in his own right, he possessed a skill set that no other author could match. He died young but the mark he left on this earth will not be lost. Future generations will enjoy his books and other writings for years to come. Works Cited Donaldson, Scott. "F. Scott Fitzgerald." Discovering the authors. Detroit: Gale, 2003.
