Essay / Overview of the Cardiovascular System - 1664
The Cardiovascular System - The cardiovascular system is responsible for transporting nutrients and removing gaseous waste from the body. It consists of the heart, which powers the entire process, veins, arteries and capillaries, which supply oxygen to the tissues at the cellular level. The cardiovascular system carries oxygen-poor blood from the heart to the lungs via the arteries, where oxygen levels are restored to the once-oxygenated air. This blood is then transported throughout the body via the arteries, keeping our organs and tissues alive. The cardiovascular system is the workhorse of the body, continually moving to push blood to cells. If this important system stops working, the body dies. The cardiovascular system is divided into two systems: pulmonary and systemic. Pulmonary division- blood flows from the heart to the alveolar capillaries and returns to the heart. Systemic division: blood flows from the heart to all capillaries “except alveolar” and returns to the heart. The cardiovascular system has 3 main functions: • Transport: The cardiovascular system transports blood to almost every tissue in the body. • Protection: the cardiovascular system protects the body thanks to its white blood cells. Platelets and red blood cells form crusts to seal wounds and prevent pathogens from entering the body and fluids from escaping.• Regulation: Blood vessels help maintain a stable body temperature by controlling blood flow to the surface of the skin (Terfera, David, and Jegtvi)Why do we need to exercise? Without exercise, many arteries in the cardiovascular system can become clogged and cause many unwanted cardiovascular diseases. Exercising regularly helps us maintain a healthy weight if we have already finished...... middle of paper ......ory System. Np, and Web. October 17, 2013. “Biolog911.” Biology911. Np, and Web.
