    I told her I don't mind being more like friends than mother and daughter, but there is a line that must be traced when we talk about my father. She was all for it and it's only been a week since then, but she hasn't spoken ill of my father since. I made sure to use all the presence skills mentioned in the People Skills section. I made sure there were no distractions and that we were comfortable. I used my following skills by asking short questions and really relating to what she was saying. I made sure to avoid all the roadblocks and let her do the talking. Once she said something important, I used my thinking skills to understand and summarize what she was saying. I feel like that really helped our conversation because she knew I really understood and felt what she was saying. In return, when I started talking, she let me express what I was thinking and everything I had to say before trying to give advice. We then talked about some of our other issues, like why we don't get along from time to time, but we realized it was because we were so similar. We now know each other's limits, which will allow us to avoid conflicts in the future. I think practicing these skills has been very helpful in helping me through my inevitable conversation with my
