  • Essay / The Origin of Species - 1238

In 1859, at a time when literal interpretation of the Bible was common practice, a book was published that had the potential to degrade society's understanding of what was fact and summarized a theory that humans slowly evolved. from a primitive form, commonly called the theory of evolution. (Kennedy Pg.572) The book entitled On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life was written by an English naturalist and geologist, Charles Darwin, and overcame the scientific rejection that similar theories had faced before. Before its publication during the Protestant Reformation, Darwin completed a five-year voyage on the HMS Beagle in the company of Captain Robert FitzRoy and kept a dairy of his experiences which would later serve as the basis for his book. The immediate importance of the book was enormous for reasons including the international debate, the impact on the scientific community, the political and global effects and, most radically, the religious attitude with which it was received. These are all very important implications, however, Darwin's disruption of the Church and the creation of Darwinism would cause a struggle between religion and science for centuries to come. Although there are many other scientific illustrations written regarding the same idea, Darwin's book On the Origin of Species laid the foundation for evolutionary biology. Charles Darwin (12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) attended medical school at the University of Edinburgh, at the time the best medical school in the United Kingdom, but he neglected his studies because he found the boring courses and painful surgical learning. His father was disappointed and annoyed by his negligence...... middle of article...... fortunately, despite scientific evidence and evidence, a political controversy based on religion has developed in the United States- United on how evolution is taught in schools. Even today, the effects of Darwin's writings live on in the minds of wonderful people and scientists who continue to prove and develop his theory of evolution, supporting the major importance of this event. 1868.
