Ethical business practices can build relationships with customers. Unethical business practices can cause a company to lose customers. In this case study, the reader will become familiar with the ethical practice of a Red Lobster store in Pleasant Hill, Pennsylvania. Identifying the Issue/Problem A waitress at the local Pennsylvania Red Lobster served an African American couple. The wife ordered a prime rib and was not happy with the rib or the waitress's service. After paying for the meal, she submitted a customer comment card in the comments box. The waitress then took the comment card out of the box and destroyed it. This incident cost the waitress her job. She was fired. From this case, we can deduce that the waitress did not want the incident to be known. She may have taken other comment cards and was never caught. It can also be assumed that this is an isolated incident that the waitress made a big mistake. Regarding ethical issues, a comment box should be managed by the manager or a superior. Restaurant workers should not have access to this box at all. The store does not have procedures in place to secure customer feedback.
