  • Essay / How Weddings Differ in Vietnam and America - 841

People from all countries around the world celebrate their important events like birthdays, graduations, weddings and funerals, etc. However, the way we organize our celebrations is different from culture to culture. and from country to country. So, Vietnamese and Americans have different celebrations for their events, and people in these countries celebrate their weddings differently in terms of preparations, costumes and ceremonies. One of the important differences between the way weddings are celebrated by Vietnamese and Americans is the preparation. According to the culture, the Vietnamese wedding begins with choosing a date and time for the wedding ceremony that corresponds to the age of the bride and groom in the Eastern zodiac. For example, I am married to a man born in the year of the Cat and I was born in the year of the Pig. So there are two of us out of three of the same ages, including the Pig, the Cat and the Goat, so the best time for our marriage is the Goat. Additionally, before the wedding day, the groom's family would visit the bride's home to inform her of the best date for the wedding ceremony. Once the wedding date is notified, the bride and groom begin sending invitations to their guests. Vietnamese weddings use the lunar calendar for the ceremony and invitations for their wedding guests, although Vietnamese use both Western and lunar calendars. On the other hand, Americans plan their weddings on the most auspicious day for the bride and groom, which usually takes place on weekends. Many American brides also host bridal showers before their wedding. For example, my next door neighbor in America had a bridal shower about over a month before her wedding. After that, she and her fiancé started sending... middle of papers... a church, courthouse, or wedding venue. The bride and groom exchange their rings and kiss in front of the witnesses and their families. Flowers are thrown to the newlyweds as they leave the ceremony location. The banquet takes place in a restaurant where the families of the bride and groom, their loved ones and the guests share their joy and celebration. Dancing during the party is the most beautiful part of American wedding culture and it happens at every American wedding. Moreover, at the end of my husband's colleague's wedding party, I saw the guests happily dancing around the newlyweds until late at night to share the joy of happiness with the newlyweds. All these people from Vietnam and America celebrate their wedding events but the way the celebrations are differences include planning, dress and observances in addition to similarities in these areas..
