  • Essay / Creativity In Sir Ken Robinson's Ted Talk video

It opened my eyes to really think about how the education system takes away creativity from children. School systems are so focused on college and career preparation that they decapitate students’ creative abilities. I have personally observed how teachers stigmatize errors. While observing a class, a student carries out an art project, but the teacher takes away points because it is not what he had imagined, what the image should be. In schools today, math and languages are offered for at least an hour a day, but students are lucky to be able to take a thirty-minute art or music class every week. I think all the testing imposed on teachers to prepare students has caused an even greater disconnect with creativity. Teachers are so worried about delivering required information to the class that they forget about the creative side of teaching. Ken Roberson explains it in a way that makes people engage and listen to this situation without them realizing to what extent. Much like Sir Ken Roberson, I believe it is our duty to educate all parts of a person to help impact the future. It is my duty to find ways to motivate my students in the classroom to be creative and create a future of people who earn more than their heads.
