  • Essay / Heterosexuality in the Color Purple - 1210

Black feminism is an African-American school of thought that maintains that sexism, class oppression, and racism are inextricably linked. “The Color Purple” illustrates the advantages of women in friendships and the power of strong female relationships. Additionally, the ability to tell stories to each other within friendship gives women the power to resist oppression and become more dominant by using their voice. This film focuses on how relationships between women form a bond, to build a source of love in a world filled with straight people.
