Essay / Passion to be a teacher - 1207
Passion to contribute to the student learning experience in a meaningful, relevant and lasting way. A teacher's great passion for the profession must be transferable to students in the form of a desire to learn. As an adjunct biology instructor at Savannah Technical College in Savannah, Georgia, I have the privilege of inspiring the passion of students who have no science background. Most of these students change careers to the health profession, and there is always an apprehension for science; Anatomy and physiology courses specific to non-scientific sectors. I have the heavy task of grooming. Compliments for my work come from various quarters, including: the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, students as well as colleagues. A great teacher knows that teaching is about content and training students to become consumers of knowledge. That being said, an excellent teacher stays current on advances in their field by attending conferences and reading scientific journals in their field. However, knowledge is not limited to scholarly journals, it is also about bridging the gap between theory and practice by encouraging and coordinating practical activities, which is the best method of learning for some.
