Essay / Symbolism in the Storm By Kate Chopin - 1324
Although Calixta was not faithful in her marriage, she eventually experienced passion and intimacy so strong that it surpassed all earthly understanding. Bobinot was a good and loyal husband, but his childish behavior and inability to have intimate sexual relations with his wife led her to satisfy her needs elsewhere. Calixta has just exercised her right as a woman to experience an enigmatic passion, which has changed her entire outlook on her dull and boring life. Calixta was sexually aroused by Alcee, her motive was not to upset her husband but simply to fill the sexual void that her husband could not. Once the affair ends she continues her life as a changed woman, she is more alive, a better person, all of this amounts to her finally receiving what she deserved in the first place, unfathomable sexuality.
