Alfred, Lord Tennyson was an interesting man who transferred his emotions into his literary works. He was a sensitive person and using these emotions in his artwork helped him survive in the old life. The greatest influence in Lord Tennyson's life was his best friend, Arthur Henry Hallam. Hallam died suddenly, leaving a tragic void in his life. However, the death of his friend turned out to be better for Tennyson's life, as it turned into beneficial work for him. Tennyson's short poems dealt with issues of death, faith and immortality (Jobin). Three moments in Alfred, the life of Lord Tennyson are his difficult childhood, loss of loved ones, and national honor. Alfred, Lord Tennyson's difficult childhood led him to worry about money his entire life. The poet's grandfather had violated tradition by making his youngest son, Charles, his heir, and by having the poet's father enter the ministry. The contrast between his own family's relatively difficult circumstances and the great wealth of his aunt Elizabeth Russell and uncle Charles Tennyson made Tennyson feel particularly poor and led him to worry about money throughout his life ( Everett). Tennyson had a fear of epilepsy that ran in his family. His father and brother, Arthur, made their condition worse by drinking. After this, his brother was placed in a mental institution and his father quickly became paranoid and violent. The cost of everything worried Tennyson and he thought that becoming a writer would be best for him. Tennyson and his other brother became known at Cambridge where he went. His life could be described as in his poem "Ulysses", "All the moments that I have greatly enjoyed, I have suffered greatly."
