  • Essay / Literary Analysis of The Poor Miller - 1678

All the characters have problems from the past, damaging the present and affecting their future. Eddie and April's relationship does not have a solid foundation and does not plan for the relationship to work. If April doesn't seek help with her insecurities, she will continue on the path of being like her mother and brother. Eddie is no better, blinded by love and seeking healthy relationships in unhealthy environments, he will never get what he truly yearns for. According to Eddie, the emptiness and loneliness he carries are worse than being with his dysfunctional girlfriend and family. Eddie must learn to love himself enough before seeking love from others. Nevertheless, he finds comfort in the company of the Bennett family. Although the dynamic within the Bennett household is dysfunctional, Eddie feels like he influences and plays an important role in each character's life. He is delighted to know that he has bonded with each member of the Bennett family, not realizing that he faces many unresolved issues. Eddie is still a poor man.
