In the United States we have a better school system than in Mexico. It helped me get through my childhood since for me it was a safe place. Even though I was still considered poor, my parents could have better-paying jobs than in this country. This provided better housing, medical care, clothing and food. This company seems to care more about children and has programs in place to detect abuse or neglect. Thanks to television and radio, I was also able to expand my knowledge on subjects other than what I had learned at school. Growing up, I watched a lot of children's shows on PBS. They made me think about relationships between people, good and evil, and helped me develop my language skills. On the contrary, since my mother was an illegal immigrant in this country; society has trapped us and her in a bad situation. We were very sheltered, not only because of an overbearing stepfather, but also because my mother was afraid. She didn't have many options to leave her situation, whether she wanted to or not. The fear of being deported was instilled in her by calling the police or telling anyone about anything. This has had a negative impact on me and my siblings throughout our lives.
