Role of the United StatesThe United States became the superpower it is today through the ideal of manifest destiny. The aspect of controlling each coastline gave the United States great control over North America. The United States was in an excellent position to extend this power outward. However, instead of focusing on territorial acquisitions, the United States has instead been concerned with the deconstruction of imperialist structured nations. The acquisition of new lands in North America and the desire to intervene militarily in foreign affairs made the United States a heavyweight in the eyes of other nations. The desire to make the world more democratic has made the task easier for the United States. allies in Europe. The success of American support during World War I led to the creation of a League of Nations, a system set up to arbitrate any international disputes. The United States was still isolated until World War II. Roosevelt signed the Lend-Lease Act into law, which allowed the British access to supplies at almost no cost. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States fully invested itself in the deconstruction of the Axis powers. American intervention was critical to the success of the D-Day strike in Normandy and the rest of Western Europe. After the dust settled, the United States joined the United Nations. The United States could now actively participate on the international stage and be the voice of democracy that it originally intended to be. This position on democracy was not well received by communist nations. In turn, the Cold War had begun. And tensions between Vietnam had increased exponentially. With the unsuccessful results of the Vietnam War, the United States was forced to reexamine its foreign policy. Instead of opposing the imperial nations, the United States...... middle of paper...... Putin. USA Today used an interview format to inform viewers about the consequences this dispute could bring. Ultimately, my opinions on the matter were heavily influenced by what the ambassador to Ukraine had to say in the interview for the USA Today article. Each article had an underlying tone that was consistent with the text of Articles 457 through 460.
