  • Essay / Reflecting on the Issue: Members of the Boston Police Department...

Members of the Boston Police Department are committed and dedicated to the needs of our community in providing quality police services in an efficient, effective manner. responsive and professional. The Boston Police Department will work closely with the community to improve the quality of life in the City of Boston using problem-solving techniques. The Boston Police Department will build strong community relationships and successful partnerships with other law enforcement, government and civic agencies to address all crime and disorder issues. The department will hold monthly meetings with community members, Project Right and stakeholders and address issues that matter most to the community. One of the Boston Police Department's top priorities is the problem of prostitution on Blue Hill Avenue. Prostitution and sex trafficking have been identified by the public and law enforcement as a problem in Blue Hill for many years. Many street crimes are the direct result of prostitution. Crimes such as street drug deals, gang violence and assaults on women. These crimes have a direct impact on members of local communities who have to deal with them on a daily basis. The Boston Police Department needs to directly address the problem of prostitution. Blue Hill Ave has become one of the busiest locations for prostitution-related crimes. Many citizens of this region complain of the incessant crimes linked to prostitution. Conventional police actions have not been very effective in combating this problem. Many of these conventional practices increase the arrests of prostitutes and treat them as criminals. Many of these women go through the justice system and end up on the streets and return to a life of prostitution...... in the middle of the newspaper...... when these men are publicly announced as being arrested for sexual behavior . for a fee and if their names are published in the newspapers, they will be much less likely to take the risk of being caught. The problem is that Boston never went after the “Johns” and instead targeted the prostitutes themselves. The Boston Police Department will discourage "Johns" by arresting them in reverse sting operations, embarrassing them by sending "Dear John letters" and creating "John Schools" as a diversion program for first-time offenders. The goal is to decrease the number of “Johns” by making more arrests and remove the demand for sex trafficking. The Boston Police Department is committed to making the community safer by addressing quality of life issues such as prostitution by adopting Sonoma County Government's approach to prostitution..
