Essay / The relationship between warm colors and positive mood
This research is important because every day we have to make choices that include choosing a color when, for example, we decide which shade of makeup to use, what color clothes to buy or deciding what color to paint a wall. It has even been proven that people often associate their mood with a specific color. Some common responses when someone is feeling sad is to describe it as "feeling down" or when a person falls in love, it is common to hear that now that person sees the world through "rose-colored glasses." Other common expressions include describing a person's jealousy as "green with envy" or describing a child's innocence as being "pure as snow." The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of color on mood using an entirely different population. I suggested using only students from Texas A&M International University. The hypothesis of this proposed experiment is that individuals exposed to warm colors will result in an increase in their positive mood. Indeed, as noted above, results from previous researchers indicate that color affects mood. Literature Review Research has uncovered the most powerful effects colors can have on our mood, brain, body, and even health. An article published by BioMed Central Medical Research Methodology published the results of 156 patients consisting of 127 women and 29 men who participated in this study. Each of the patients answered questions such as: “Regarding your daily mood over the last few months, do you associate it with a particular color? If yes, what color? Researchers developed an instrument called the Manchester Color Wheel to classify colors into positive, neutral and negative shades administered to patients.
